Covering outdoor equipment for national consumer magazines means dealing with many different brands – hundreds, even – and that can be a frustrating process. MCS simplifies that task, providing me with exactly what I need in an efficient, professional yet friendly manner. The staff there have a keen understanding of my requirements as a writer, and of what their client needs in terms of getting their product out there. In the world of outdoor PR, few companies come close to the quality of service provided by MCS.

Businesses aiming to communicate in specialist markets require specialist expertise. When asked by those who need to address the outdoor sector we always recommend that they look to a PR agency that can demonstrate a track record built upon serving the outdoor market. And MCS’ track record of excellence is the longest and arguably the most distinguished in an industry that is blessed with some good PR suppliers.

OIA Conference 2014 – A huge success
20th March 2014

The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) Conference & AGM 2014, organised by MCS, ended on a high on Tuesday 18th March, following a hectic two-day schedule filled with inspirational speakers, workshops, activities and networking opportunities. For the first time, the event took place at the Low Wood Bay Hotel, Windermere, which hosted over 200 delegates from various companies and roles across the outdoor industry.

The tone for the conference was set by CEO Andrew Denton in his presentation ‘The Times, They Are a-Changing’, encouraging delegates to Engage, Unite, Support and Represent, while OIA Chairman Stephen Newlands delivered a strong message to members to encourage support for the future efforts and activities of the OIA .

Monday afternoon consisted of some outdoor activities that included a tree top walk, a tough mountain biking session, a low level walk and a high level scramble led by climber, Andy Cave. The AGM that followed provided an update on the progress of the OIA in recent years, announcing a continued increase in membership and a greatly improved financial status.

Keynote speakers at the conference, which included, Frank Hugelmeyer (President & CEO of Outdoor Industry Association in the United States) and Tashi Sherpa (Founder & President of Sherpa Adventure Gear), inspired delegates with their insightful, thought provoking presentations on Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon, delegates had an opportunity to split into smaller groups and attend different workshops, including seminars on social media, the French Market, Corporate Social Responsibility and the Future of Retail Technology & Loyalty.

This year’s conference was supported by Cumbria Tourism, the Lake District National Park and Lowe Alpine, along with associate sponsors, Pertex, Brunton and VOS Media/The Telegraph Outdoor Show. The AGM, keynote and workshop presentations will be available via the member’s section of the website shortly – please see for further information.

Save the date in your diary for next year – the 2015 OIA Conference is provisionally booked for 16th and 17th March at the same venue!
